The Tamworth under 18 girls played a monumental game on Sunday 13th April, in which they played Stafford for the Staffordshire County Cup Final. It is worth noting that Tamworth were the team to first win the title last year upon its creation amongst the under 18 girl category but this made no difference for the Stafford opposition were a formidable force. The intensity of the game had both players and spectators holding their breath but ultimately it was Tamworth who could rest easy with a final score of 14-19.
The first half set the tone of the game with both teams running and tackling with pure determination. The scoreline was slim after both teams scored a try, Nell for Tamworth, but only Stafford were able to convert their try. The second half carried the same tempo but both teams seemed even more determined to win the game and as a result more tries were scored: two for Tamworth, both scored by Lexi and converted by Eva; and one converted try for Stafford. As the clock counted down tension rose as we saw ball possession transferred multiple times between the two teams and it was wondered if Tamworth would hold defensively or if Stafford would score and win. However, the game ended with a knock-on from Stafford and a very happy Tamworth side.
