Sunday the 19th January was a day to be celebrated for the Tamworth under 18 girls as they won their National Cup match against Chester and as a result, will progress to the quarter-finals of the national cup. It must be well celebrated by the girls that they are now amongst the eight remaining under 18 girls teams in the country to be competing. Though Chester played well and fought hard, the final score was 36-14 to Tamworth.
The first half allowed for the girls to gain some momentum and score 4 tries and 2 conversions against the opposition. Try scorers were Ellie, Eva, Lexi, and Lucie, and Izzy converting 2 from 4. All of the girls played in a cohesive motion to achieve this and carried the same energy through into the second half.
The second half of the game was more even footed with the Tamworth girls scoring the first two tries, courtesy of Lucie and Lexie, and a conversion from Izzy. But Chester ended the game strongly with two tries, both successfully converted.
Dames of the game were Evangeline for the forwards for her strong carries in attack and defensive efforts combined with some excellent scrummaging, and Izzy for the backs for her ability to control the narrative of the game and keep it the tempo high.
